Learning Evaluation

SARtacs believes that course evaluation is essential in the search for excellence in training. It also believes that in certain circumstances it can be useful to enable students to demonstrate competence after training by taking either written or oral examinations or a combination of the two.

Evaluation

At the end of each course SARtacs will administer an end of course questionnaire. This is far from new in the world of training, but does enable the Trainer to assess the learning that has taken place, and the value and appropriateness of the course content. SARtacs will analyse this feedback and make alterations to any part of the training process where corroborated trends appear. The results of this evaluation process will be shared with the client organisation upon request

Course Certificates

In addition at the end of the course, SARtacs will issue a course certificate to each student. The Certificates are registered by SARtacs by name and serial number which enables a formal audit trail of courses which students have attended. The client organisation is invited to participate in this process, by having a senior member of staff award the certificates, and in applying their organisations crest or logo to the certificate alongside that of SARtacs.

Examinations

IMO/ICAO support the view that students who are taking on high level and highly responsible roles such as SMC, should have the opportunity to demonstrate competence and thereby qualify for the position. This gives confidence to both the individual and organisation that a person is suitable for the role and has demonstrated theability to perform tasks required of the position. SARtacs is in a position to administer examinations and has had extensive experience of processes in this respect. It can be an expensive and complex strategy, which can have implications for an individual’s future employment. Language is often an issue in taking examinations, and along with other issues, SARtacs would encourage in depth discussion with clients before a decision is taken in respect of an examinations strategy.
